Terms of Use
Last updated: November 7, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and TapIn, operated by Matthew Dysart ("TapIn," "we," "us"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use TapIn.
Important: TapIn records who checked in to an event. It does not verify anyone's age or identity. Ages shown in TapIn are self-reported by guests. Hosts must check a valid government ID before relying on anyone's age for any purpose.
1. Who can use TapIn
You must be at least 18 years old and have a valid school (.edu) email address. You may have only one account, and you are responsible for activity on it.
2. Accurate information
You agree that the name and date of birth you provide are true and belong to you. Giving false information, including a false date of birth, violates these terms and may result in your account being removed.
3. Rules for guests
- Only check yourself in. Don't scan for someone else or let anyone use your account.
- Your check-in screen shows that you checked in. It is not proof of age or identity. Bring a valid ID to events.
- Follow the host's rules and the law at every event.
4. Rules for hosts and door staff
- You are solely responsible for your event, including following all laws, school policies, and organization policies.
- You must not rely on TapIn to determine anyone's age. If your event involves anything age-restricted, including alcohol, you must check a valid government ID yourself.
- Use guest information only to run your event. Don't sell it, share it publicly, or use it to contact or harass guests.
- If you export a guest list, keep it private and delete it when you no longer need it.
5. Things you may not do
- Break the law or help others break it using TapIn.
- Try to access other users' data, get around security, or overload the service.
- Copy, resell, or reverse-engineer the app.
- Impersonate another person or organization.
6. Ending your account
You can delete your account anytime in the app under Account → Delete my account. We may suspend or remove accounts that violate these terms.
7. No warranty
TapIn is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not promise it will always work, be error-free, or be available at any particular event. Keep a backup plan, such as a paper list, at the door.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, TapIn and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for anything that happens at an event, including the actions of hosts, guests, or anyone else. Our total liability for any claim related to TapIn is limited to $50.
9. Indemnity
If you host an event using TapIn, you agree to cover any claims, losses, or costs against TapIn and its operator that arise from your event or your breach of these terms.
10. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how we use it.
11. Changes
We may update these terms. If changes are significant, we will notify you in the app. Continuing to use TapIn after changes means you accept them.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California.
13. Apple
These terms are between you and TapIn, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for TapIn or its content, and has no obligation to provide support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them.
